IP Protection and Management Issues in Open Innovation and Joint Venture Efforts

September 17, 2008, 10 am – 11 am PDT

Join us on Wednesday, September 17, 2008, for this Caltech IRC webinar featuring Dr. Paul Germeraad, a leading authority on intellectual property for business development. He is the instructor for the Caltech IRC course, Intellectual Property for Technology & Business Development.

If your firm is using or contemplating using open innovation or joint ventures to speed and enhance new business development efforts, you’ll want to examine these critical IP business considerations.

Attend this webinar to learn how to:

  • Choose advantaged forms of IP and innovation
  • Link IP development to the business cycle
  • Link IP development to the IP landscape
  • Start with the "end in mind"
  • Be clear on what IP does and doesn’t provide
  • Negotiate realistically about IP’s value
  • Assess business risk through IP analysis

Taking the approach of managing your IP as a business helps you to consider the design principles for IP ownership and the IP effects in different regions of the world.

Dr. Paul Germeraad is president of Intellectual Assets, Inc. He specializes in the development of leading edge IP assessment tools, ensuring clients create and obtain maximum value from their intellectual property.

Dr. Germeraad holds 10 U.S. patents and 12 foreign counterparts. He is past chairman of the board of the Industrial Research Institute.

Dr. Germeraad was previously chief operating officer for Aurigin Systems, Inc., focusing on the commercialization of the company's intellectual asset management software for the competitive intelligence, licensing, and R&D communities. He is a contributing author to two books, and has authored over a dozen refereed articles. Dr. Germeraad holds a PhD in chemistry from the University of California, Irvine, and an LLB degree from La Salle University. He received his BA in chemistry from the University of California, San Diego.

Invite your colleagues and join us on September 15 at 10 AM PDT to learn how you can protect your IP when pursuing open innovation and joint venture efforts. It is important to register in advance to receive the toll-free call-in number and presentation link.

Audio files will be available after the presentation for emailing to others in your organization to continue the learning.
